Fincher’s one of those directors with an amazing track record. I’d argue that his worst films are Benjamin Button and Alien 3, yet both of them are completely watchable. His most middle-of-the-road movies are probably The Game and Panic Room, which are still compelling thrillers. His only other movies(Fight Club, Seven, Zodiac and The Social Network) are fantastic and would all easily fit in my top 100 movies of all time. I’m excited to see his take on the American adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

I’m pretty much in agreement with your ranking, except I’m a Benjamin Button apologist and would put it with his middle-of-the-road stuff, while moving The Game down a peg. And I have yet to see Alien 3, mostly because of how much I liked the first two. Fincher himself didn’t like Alien 3 so I’m not really in a rush to check it out. Speaking about his dislike of Alien 3, I was poking around Fincher’s IMDb page the other day and found this post, which I thought was pretty funny/interesting.

That is hilarious. Fincher’s a hell of a guy.

You should check out Alien3, if you even like the Alien series. It’s really not that bad–except for alienating fans of the previous film, some shitty puppet effects and a jumbled third act. I think a lot of him disowning the film is because of the studio shenanigans and not actually indicative of the movie itself.
